Our genuine leather for custom car upholstery

Full-grain cowhide, automotive-grade manufacturing, exceptional touch and rugged durability: our leather is made for those who want a truly upscale interior. Here's a short guide to know everything before you take the plunge.

Why bet on genuine leather for your car seats?

Leather is something of a star in car upholstery — and frankly, you can see why. Nothing else has quite that distinctive feel, that sense of class as soon as you open the door, that unmistakable scent. Leather is timeless, classy, and most of all, built to go the distance.

Switching to genuine leather covers does more than freshen up your interior — it gives it real character. The beauty is that leather develops a patina rather than wearing out. A well-cared-for leather seat after five years often looks even better than on day one.

Our choice: natural full-grain cowhide

Not all leathers are equal — far from it. At Top Sellerie Auto, we made a clear choice: natural full-grain cowhide. That's no small detail.

"Full-grain" means the top layer of the hide, the most prestigious one, the one that keeps all the original characteristics: grain, firmness, strength, breathability. It's what you'll find in premium upholstery, and it's what makes the difference both visually and to the touch.

"Natural" because the tanning and finishing process respects the raw material as much as possible. No heavy coating that hides the grain — what you touch is real leather.

And because we're talking about cars, our leather is manufactured to current automotive standards, both environmental and industry-specific (UV resistance, fire behaviour, long-term wear). It isn't leather borrowed from another industry — it's leather built for cars.

Our leather technical specs

For numbers lovers and those who want to compare, here's the essential data:

Average thickness: 1.30 mm (+/- 2%). The ideal thickness for car upholstery: supple enough to hug the complex shapes of seats (cushions, bolsters, armrests), yet sturdy enough to withstand years of daily friction.

Composition: 100% natural full-grain cowhide.

Resistance:

– Excellent resistance to friction and wear, making it a great choice for the most-used spots (driver's seat in particular).

– Outstanding bend tolerance, with no weakness at frequently flexed areas.

– Positive results in tear resistance tests.

In short: a leather built to last, and to stay beautiful while doing so.

How to care for your car leather?

The good news: caring for leather isn't that complicated. A few good habits go a long way.

Day-to-day cleaning. A regular vacuum to lift dust, and for any spills, a gentle clean with a neutral soap and a microfibre cloth. Circular movements, no harsh scrubbing. No standard household cleaner, no solvents — they can damage the natural finish.

Periodic upkeep. Two or three times a year, feed the leather with a dedicated leather conditioner. This keeps it supple, prevents cracks and extends its lifespan. It's the small step that makes all the difference long-term.

Leather's enemies. Direct sunlight over long periods (a sun shade in summer is precious), greasy stains left untreated (deal with stains as quickly as possible), and solvents. Apart from that, your leather will thank you for years.

Which seats can you fit it on?

Our leather adapts to any configuration thanks to our custom-made manufacturing. Depending on your need, you can fit it on:

Genuine leather or faux leather: which to choose?

It's the big question we hear most often. There's no wrong answer — it all depends on how you'll use it.

Genuine leather wins on touch, character, patina and longevity. It's the love-for-the-craft choice — for those who want a car with real soul and don't mind giving it a little attention.

Faux leather plays the simplicity card: a look very close to leather, easier care, stronger resistance to water and stains, and a friendlier budget. It's the ideal choice for those who want a great look without any fuss.

Still unsure? Take a look at our dedicated article on our faux leather — we cover everything. To help decide, you can also order a sample and feel it for real. Nothing beats touching the actual material.
